Music to my heart…

I opened the door to a whole new experience yesterday – quite literally.
Arriving home after co-facilitating a lovely Reiki Share event, I discovered the oddest sight. As I approached the door, something felt ‘off.’ As I turned the handle, I thought: Hmmmm, what is that? As I opened the door, my jaw dropped. Is that what I think it is?
Wandering deeper into my house, I witnessed it first hand: my husband listening to ‘yoga music’!?
Now I am a believer, but if I was not this would have proven it right then and there for me: aliens do exists, and they obviously swooped down into my house, scooped up my husband’s music tastes and deposited him with something more in tune with my musical tastes. What better proof is needed than my husband listening to Snatam Kaur on YouTube!
OK, I had to get to the bottom of this shift. Putting my ear near his earphone: “So, uhmmm, what are you listening to?” Scared for my life that an alien arm would reach out and stroke my hair, I quickly moved three feet away. “And, ahhhhh…what inspired you to try ‘yoga music’?” I thought I saw a glimpse of alien scales glimmering on his forehead as he paused to think.
In truth, it turns out that while attending a friend’s memorial service the day before, he caught the juicy ‘yoga music’ vibe. What my husband had not known about his friend was that he had a deep spiritual side to him – not something he openly discussed with the guys at the pub. Not surprising!
What I have spent years gently encouraging my husband to be open to, his friend Rod was able to do with one song – a song of his life and now his legacy. So much so that my lovely husband asked: “Where can you buy these types of CDs?” Bless his heart. After picking myself up off the floor in shock, I told him he is most welcome to listen to mine. Apparently, not good enough, we now have a date to go to some of my favourite stores, so he can buy his own CDs.
Music to my heart – a miraculous shift happened! Shhhhhh, keep it to yourself – wouldn’t want him to realise that change was underway. He would probably ‘turtle’ back to his music. ; )
The lesson for me: I cannot and do not aspire to change my husband. But when other people in his life inspire him to change, I dance with joy! Thank you, Rod.
